Photoshop Beauty

1. Why do you think people are portrayed this way in the media?

I think people are portrayed this way in the media because it is meant to catch the audiences eye and attract them towards whatever it is they are promoting. It makes it more tempting to buy certain items if the person who is advertising it is very attractive.

2. How are you affected by the images you see?

I personally am not affected by the images I see. I know that a lot of it is edited and at the same time i understand the media's reasoning behind it.

3. What can be done to reduce the amount of young men and women that are negatively affected by these images?

The media can try to portray more natural beauty with less editing instead of what they currently do now-take away all of the natural looks with makeup and photoshop. I think if people realized that more than half of the 'beauty' is fake, they wouldn't be so negatively affected.

4.  What would your reaction be to a magazine cover where the subject isn’t all glammed up?  Is this a possible route that society should take?  Why or why not?

Yes, I think this is a possible route society would take. I think so because a lot of teens are affected negatively by the media and if one company or magazine would start to portray natural looks it could become popular. Its the opposite of what is being portrayed now which could catch peoples eye and attract them which afterall, is what the media wants.

File Sharing

1. What is your personal opinion towards file sharing?  Is it right or wrong?  Please explain.

I am personally against file sharing because I think that people should have access to music and movies but for a price. The actors and musicians need some sort of benefit and/or credit for their talent that is being exploited on the internet.

2. If you produced your own piece of art/song/movie, would you hold the same opinion?

If a piece of my own art/song/movie was going around the internet I would hold same the hold opinion because i would expect some recognition for my work.

3. Do you feel it is morally acceptable to download copyrighted material if it is only intended for personal use?

No, I do not feel it is morally acceptable to download copyrighted material if it is only intended for personal use because everyone would begin doing that and it would still end up in a large number of people file sharing.

Texting In Social Situations

1. What are your thoughts on texting in social situations?

My thoughts on texting in social situations is that it isn't the greatest thing to do. When talking to someone in person, the main focus should be on them. If someone is trying to tell you something important but you are constantly pulling out your phone and texting someone else, it shows that you're not really interested in what they're saying which is really rude. Not putting your main focus on the person you're with could be extremely annoying and make the other person feel bad.

2. Do you find it rude if you're talking to somebody and they proceed to text continuously on their cell phone?

Yes, I do find it rude when I'm trying to talk to someone but they wont put their phone away no matter what. I personally think that the full attention should be on the person you're talking to in real life. In person the conversation goes by much quicker than when you're texting. Therefore people over the phone can wait meanwhile people in person should be what the main focus is on.

3. If you had to come up with a list of five etiquette rules for texting, they would be:

1. Ignore your phone while having a conversation with someone else in person.
2. Turn your phone off while in church.
3. Do not say extremely important things over text.
4. Dont text or use your phone while having a meal with people.
5. Dont text in movie theatres because of the strong light.
